Kiev weather is classified as continental humid with hot summers and bitterly cold winters. On the other hand spring and autumn are brief but remain rather pleasant throughout their duration.
The hottest months are June, July, and August; with average daily temperatures hovering between 14C to 25C.The coldest weather in Kiev is between the months December to February, with average daily temperatures of -5C to -1C.
During winter, the city's rivers freeze over, creating a wonderland for locals and tourists alike, allowing for ice-skating and ice fishing. Snow blanketing usually occurs from November to March, frost free periods last on average around 180 days but in recent years they have been known to exceed 200 days.
The majorities of tourists visit the city during the spring and summer seasons. This is understandable, as the rather pleasant patterns of both seasons are in sharp contrast to the cold winter temperatures Kiev weather experiences. In recent years however due to the fall of the Soviet Union the country has become famous for its winter sports, especially ice skating. Numerous top Olympic skaters call it home.
Kiev weather is at its best between May and mid-October, temperatures are not too high, the city begins to thaw from the winter and flowers and trees start to bloom waking the people and the city from their winter slumber.
Kiev weather experiences sufficient amounts of precipitation annually, the months with the majority of rainfall is July and August averaging around 100cm per month.
